Eleven years ago, my sweet father-in-law’s battle with cancer ended, and he was present with the Lord. I was confident of this because just 12 days earlier, after many years of prayer, persistence, and sharing Jesus with him, he accepted Jesus as his savior during a phone call we shared. What a day of rejoicing! The Lord is great, and every day I want to bless him and praise his name for his unsearchable greatness. “One generation shall commend your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts.” (Psalm 145:4)
Mike’s salvation story remains a spiritual marker in my life—a reminder of the power of persistent prayer. But the story gets even better. During his funeral, my husband shared the testimony of his dad’s salvation. Soon after the service, a cousin I had never met came rushing into my arms, hugging me and asking for every detail. She had been praying too. As we talked, we realized we had both sent him Bibles, written him letters, and shared with him about the greatest gift of all—salvation. And when it was the Lord’s time, the Spirit moved, and God received all the glory. So today, I share His mighty acts and proclaim and meditate on His wondrous works.
This morning I declared and remembered this to my children a reminder of his might and power and the legacy and stories of our families walk with the Lord. I encourage you to persist in prayer and continue telling of his might and power to God be the glory. And for an extra treasure read Psalm 145!
